Hub fans bid Church adieu

The Boston Archdiocese, which recently closed 20% of its parishes, is planning even more radical cuts.  There are many reasons for this, but the leadership up there has been rotten for a long time

  1. When a Bishop needs to make such cuts it is for reasons of cost. And it is similar to the draconian cost cuts that governments are doing.

  2. It's more reasons of revenue than costs. Sadly, but understandably, huge numbers of Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston, seeing their Church stray far afield from her teachings, no longer go to church.

  3. Dear Frido,
Some of the cost problem is attributable to poor leadership. The Archdiocese has had to pay huge settlements to victims of sexual abuse. Also, its bureacracy is bloated and overpaid. This leads in turn to a revenue problem, as fewer people attend Mass each week and are less generous in their giving.
Just as the draconian cuts governments face are attributable to poor leadership in the past, so are the cuts being faced by the Boston Archdiocese attributable in significant part to poor leadership.
    Thank you for the comment.
